Triptych ‘002 MEWA – Butterfly’ — one of three reliefs by Adam Ankiewicz from the unique ‘MEWA 002’ tile collection.
One of three reliefs forming a triptych, which includes: '002 MEWA - Lynx', '002 MEWA - Butterfly' and '002 MEWA - Prism'. All three compositions were designed and created for the 100% Design event held in London. The works promoted Mewa tiles, which had their official launch in London in 2016. Only two of the works (Lynx and Butterfly) returned to Poland. The work '002 MEWA - Prism' found its way into a private collection. The present work '002 MEWA - Butterfly', was part of Warssawa studio presentation at the Łódź Design Festival, supported by 'Dobre Wnętrze' magazine. The relief was also one of the works presented at the opening of my exhibition at Hala Koszyki in 2017/2018. In March 2018, an extensive article featuring my work appeared in 'Dobre Wnętrze' magazine.

002 MEWA - Butterfly

material

All the tiles were handcrafted using a proprietary concrete ceramics technique I developed myself. The binder used for each individual Mewa tile is white Portland cement, which is characterised by its high strength. Its very high degree of whiteness makes it possible to achieve any colour for the tiles. The pigments used to colour the composite mixture are the highest quality, finely ground oxides of iron, chromium, cobalt and titanium. They are characterised by high colour uniformity and are resistant to weathering and UV radiation.

An essential component of the composite mass in tile production is micro-aggregate, specially formulated by me from quartz sands with strictly defined physical and chemical parameters. Subjected to a special technological process, they allow for the regulation of the uniformity and porosity of the composite mass.

When creating the correct composite formula for each tile, fine-grained additives and the latest-generation admixtures are used; thanks to their microscopic structure, these enable the production of a highly durable material with increased resistance to fire, water, chemical agents and abrasion.

All stages of the technological process are designed and selected individually for each of my works.
